👠 The Sexy Halloween Party Survival Guide: How to Survive Wearing the Bloody Costume

⏱️ 12min read

You’ve done it.

The costume is on.

The makeup is immaculate.

The stockings have survived their first ten minutes.

Your hair has achieved a level of volume normally associated with weather events.

You look bloody fantastic.

There’s just one tiny problem.

You now have to spend the next six hours actually wearing the thing.

😂🎃

Because Halloween costumes are designed for many things.

Looking fabulous? Absolutely.

Taking photos? Definitely.

Sitting down?

Apparently optional.

Using the bathroom without completely undressing?

Good luck, soldier.

Welcome to the Lube Lady guide nobody tells you that you need until one false eyelash is hanging on for dear life, your Bunny ears have given you a headache and your left shoe has declared war on your little toe.

This isn’t another guide about what to wear.

This is about how to survive wearing it.

Grab the fashion tape.

We’re going in.

👗 First: Perform the Sit, Bend, Dance & Pee Test

Do not wait until you’re at the party to discover the structural limitations of your costume.

Put the whole thing on at home.

Not just the dress.

Stockings. Shoes. Bodysuit. Corset. Wig. Ears. Tail. Mask. Cape. Wings. Accessories. Whatever glorious nonsense you’ve committed yourself to.

Then perform a few basic human activities.

Sit down.

Walk upstairs.

Bend over.

Raise your arms.

Get into a car.

Pick something up from the floor.

And dance.

Actually dance.

Not one polite shoulder wiggle in front of the mirror.

Dance like the good song just came on.

Do the straps stay where they’re supposed to?

Does the skirt migrate north?

Does anything dig in?

Can you breathe comfortably?

Are your Bunny ears slowly sliding towards your left eyebrow?

Does anything fall out, ride up, fall down or attempt escape?

Excellent.

You’ve discovered the problem before the public did.

And perhaps most importantly...

Go to the bathroom.

A complicated bodysuit may look incredible until you’re locked in a cubicle discovering that it has seventeen fastenings, six straps and apparently requires an engineering degree.

If you need ten minutes and an assistant to escape your costume while completely sober at home, modify the plan now.

😂

📸 Do the Phone Flash Test

This takes about thirty seconds and could save you a very interesting photo album.

Put your costume on.

Stand somewhere relatively dark.

Take a photograph with your phone flash.

Some lightweight or pale fabrics can behave very differently under bright lighting and photography, so check the costume in more than one lighting condition.

Check the front.

Check the back.

Turn sideways.

Move around.

And while we’re conducting scientific research, see whether bra straps, underwear lines or anything else underneath has suddenly become far more noticeable than you intended.

If you’re comfortable with what you see?

Excellent.

If not?

Fix it at home.

Not after seventeen people have uploaded photos.

😂📸

👜 Build the Halloween Emergency Handbag

Your normal handbag is about to become a miniature emergency department.

You don’t need to carry your entire bathroom cabinet, but a few carefully chosen things can rescue an evening remarkably quickly.

The Lube Lady Halloween Emergency Kit

Fashion tape
For necklines, straps and anything else developing independent ambitions.

Safety pins
The emergency costume-repair tool of champions.

Blister patches or plasters
Because those shoes were absolutely going to betray you.

Lipstick or lip colour
Especially when your entire look depends on a dramatic lip.

Pressed powder or blotting paper
Halloween parties get warm.

Mini deodorant
See above. 😂

Hair ties and bobby pins
For when your elaborate hairstyle enters its second personality.

Tissues
Useful for approximately 400 Halloween emergencies.

Makeup-remover wipes
Especially useful if fake blood or heavy makeup is involved.

Spare stockings or tights
If hosiery is central to your costume, a backup pair can save the outfit.

Portable phone charger
You’ll thank yourself later.

Mints
Tiny. Useful. No further explanation required.

Any medication or personal essentials you normally need
These outrank the lipstick. Obviously.

And if your tiny costume handbag has enough room for approximately one Tic Tac?

Prioritise.

😂

👠 Let’s Talk About Those Shoes

At 7:00pm:

Oh my God, these heels make the entire outfit.

At 9:30pm:

They’re slightly uncomfortable.

At 11:14pm:

WHO INVENTED FEET?

😂👠

Halloween is not the night to discover that your beautiful new shoes have the ergonomic properties of a medieval torture device.

Wear them around the house beforehand.

Actually walk in them.

Stand for a while.

Try stairs.

If they’re already hurting after twenty minutes in your living room, they’re unlikely to become mysteriously comfortable after four hours of dancing.

Blister patches can help protect vulnerable areas, but there’s another option that deserves far more respect:

Backup shoes.

Foldable flats, sandals or comfortable trainers left in the car, cloakroom or a larger bag can feel like receiving a personal gift from the universe at midnight.

Will they perfectly complement your Vampire Queen aesthetic?

Perhaps not.

Will you care?

Absolutely not.

🧦 Hosiery Has Its Own Agenda

Stockings, fishnets and thigh-highs can completely transform a Halloween costume.

They can also encounter one chair, handbag clasp or rogue fingernail and decide their work here is done.

If hosiery is essential to the look, consider bringing a spare pair.

And wear your costume hosiery around the house before the big night.

Do the stockings stay up?

Does the waistband roll?

Are the fishnets catching on jewellery?

Does the garter sit comfortably?

Are your boots rubbing against them?

If you’ve spent the entire trial run hauling your thigh-highs north every forty seconds, that’s useful information.

Halloween should involve mystery.

Whether your stockings will remain attached to your legs shouldn’t be one of them.

😂

Lube Lady Tip - Clear nail polish: Got a small ladder in your tights? Carefully dab a little clear nail polish at the top and bottom of the run to help seal the loose nylon fibres and stop it travelling any further. For a tiny snag, you can lightly brush it over the damaged area too. Let it dry completely before putting your tights back on - unless you fancy becoming permanently attached to them. 😄

👗 The Underwear Strategy Nobody Talks About

Not every costume needs special underwear.

But some costumes become considerably easier to live in when you think about what’s underneath them.

If you’re wearing a very short skirt and know you’ll be dancing, sitting, climbing stairs or getting in and out of cars, fitted boy shorts or similar underwear underneath can give you one less thing to think about.

They’re not there to change your body.

They’re there so you can throw yourself onto the dance floor without conducting constant hem surveillance.

Likewise, check whether your bra works with the neckline, whether straps stay hidden if you want them hidden, and whether your underwear remains comfortable once the entire costume is layered over it.

The best underwear for a Halloween costume is often simply the underwear you can forget you’re wearing.

🐰 Ears, Tails, Wings & Other Things You May Regret by Midnight

The accessory makes the costume.

Until the accessory becomes a full-time job.

Bunny ears can cause pressure headaches.

Large wings can make doorways unexpectedly complicated.

Tails can catch on chairs.

Masks can reduce visibility.

Long capes can become trip hazards.

Huge hats may apparently require their own postcode.

And gloves?

You will discover remarkably quickly how many ordinary tasks require fingertips.

😂

Ask yourself:

Can I move safely in this?

Can I see properly?

Can I remove it easily if I’ve had enough?

If a mask obstructs your vision, take it off when you’re walking around, particularly outdoors, near roads or anywhere you need a clear view. Halloween safety guidance commonly warns against masks that significantly restrict vision.

And if your costume includes something enormous, have a plan for where it goes when you inevitably decide you’re finished carrying it.

Otherwise, by midnight, the venue begins collecting abandoned Halloween accessories like an archaeological site.

👩🦰 Wig Warfare

A costume wig can completely transform you.

Blonde to brunette.

Brunette to redhead.

Responsible adult to purple-haired intergalactic seductress.

Thirty seconds.

We love that kind of efficiency.

But if you’re planning to wear one for hours, don’t put it on five minutes before leaving and simply hope for the best.

Secure your natural hair comfortably underneath.

Use a wig cap if appropriate.

Check that clips or pins aren’t digging into your scalp.

Make sure the wig isn’t sitting so low that you spend the evening peering through the fringe.

And remember:

Wigs can get hot.

If your Halloween venue is crowded, that magnificent mane may eventually feel less Hollywood bombshell and more portable insulation.

If you suspect you’ll remove it later, think about what you’ll do with your natural hair underneath.

A hair tie and several bobby pins suddenly become extremely valuable handbag real estate.

Browse the Lube Lady Wigs Collection if your Halloween alter ego requires a completely different head of hair.

💄 Makeup at 7pm vs Makeup at Midnight

At home:

Flawless.

Three hours later:

Your lipstick is missing.

Your glitter has travelled south.

One eyelash is considering resignation.

And somehow somebody who wasn’t wearing glitter now has glitter.

Halloween.

😂

You don’t need your entire makeup bag, but carry whichever product is doing the most work.

Bold red lip?

Bring the lipstick.

Black liner essential to your Catwoman look?

Bring the liner.

Face gems?

A couple of spares may be useful.

And don’t underestimate a tiny mirror.

Bathroom mirrors at Halloween parties can become highly contested territory.

If you’re trying a new costume cosmetic, face paint, adhesive or fake blood on your skin, check its instructions and patch-test it ahead of time rather than discovering at 8pm that your face strongly disagrees with your creative direction. Australian consumer guidance similarly recommends checking labels and testing unfamiliar Halloween cosmetics before use.

🩸 The Fake Blood Blueprint

We adore fake blood.

We’ve even made an entire guide about making DIY fake blood with water-based personal lubricant, because apparently Lube Lady refuses to let personal lubricant remain in its assigned department.

😂🩸

But fake blood needs planning.

Anything containing strong colouring can potentially stain clothing, upholstery, bedding or other surfaces.

So think about where you’re putting it.

A strategic drip from the corner of your mouth?

Excellent.

Both hands completely covered?

Congratulations.

You can no longer touch anything.

😂

If you’re using a commercial fake-blood or SFX product, follow its application and removal directions rather than assuming every formula behaves the same way.

If you’re using our DIY lube-based version, remember that although the water-based lubricant itself is designed to wash away with water, the colouring you add is a separate matter and may stain.

Test first.

Be particularly careful around pale fabric and furniture.

And if you’re attending somebody’s house party, please don't leave them with a permanent crime scene on their cream sofa.

Pack a couple of makeup-remover wipes and tissues for emergency cleanup.

Sometimes the most convincing fake blood effect is also the most restrained.

🔥 Your Costume and Candles Need a Conversation

Halloween loves candles.

Halloween also loves wigs, capes, feathers, synthetic costumes, flowing sleeves and approximately nine million other things we don’t particularly want near a naked flame.

Official Australian Halloween safety guidance advises keeping costumes, wigs and accessories away from candles and other ignition sources; even products described as flame resistant can still burn.

So if your costume includes enormous sleeves, long synthetic hair, a cape or anything else dramatically floating behind you:

Know where the candles are.

Battery-operated candles are a fantastic option when you’re creating your own Halloween atmosphere at home.

Looking mysteriously illuminated by candlelight?

Fabulous.

Becoming the candle?

Considerably less fabulous.

😂🔥

🍕 Can You Actually Eat in This?

Nobody considers this while designing the costume.

Then dinner arrives.

Masks.

Fangs.

Elaborate lipstick.

Long gloves.

Face prosthetics.

Huge sleeves.

Corsets.

Suddenly eating a slice of pizza requires tactical planning.

If you’re heading to dinner before the party, consider whether certain costume elements should go on after you’ve eaten.

Fake fangs can wait.

Masks can come off.

Gloves can be removed.

Elaborate lip effects can happen later.

And if your outfit is particularly fitted, perhaps don’t choose the pre-party meal that historically makes you want to unbutton your jeans and lie horizontally for forty minutes.

😂

Eat normally.

Just think logistically.

🥂 Drink Water Too

Yes, this may be the least glamorous paragraph in the article.

It may also be one of the most useful.

Halloween parties can mean crowded venues, dancing, warm costumes and alcohol.

Add a wig, tights, boots, synthetic fabrics and several hours of movement and you may become much warmer than expected.

Drink water throughout the night.

Eat something.

Take a break if you need one.

And keep an eye on your friends.

A good Halloween story is:

“Remember when Sarah lost one Bunny ear and danced with a plastic skeleton?”

Not:

“Remember when nobody knew where Sarah was?”

Look after each other.

💗

🌡️ What If Your Sexy Costume Forgot About Weather?

Some Halloween costumes appear to have been designed under the assumption that weather doesn’t exist.

😂

And because Halloween happens in different climates around the world, there isn’t one universal problem.

You might be freezing.

You might be sweating.

You might experience both within the same evening.

Check the forecast before leaving and plan accordingly.

If it’s cold, consider sheer-looking thermal tights, discreet layers or outerwear that works with the character.

Vampire?

Dramatic coat or cloak.

Boss Girl?

Blazer.

Catwoman?

Black jacket.

Schoolgirl?

Cardigan or oversized blazer.

If it’s warm, lightweight layers and costume pieces you can remove may be considerably more useful.

And remember the journey there and home, not just the temperature inside the venue.

Your costume doesn’t stop being sexy because you decided being painfully cold isn’t part of the aesthetic.

📱 Your Costume Has No Pockets, Does It?

Of course it doesn’t.

Apparently pockets would destroy Halloween.

😂

Before leaving home, decide where these are going:

Phone.

Keys.

ID.

Cards or money.

Medication.

Transport essentials.

Don’t spend the entire evening clutching your phone because your costume has nowhere else for it to live.

A small crossbody bag, wristlet or compact handbag can work without overwhelming the costume.

And charge your phone.

Halloween is not the ideal evening for your battery to hit 2% while you’re trying to find your friends or organise transport home.

A small portable charger earns its place in the emergency bag very quickly.

🚕 Have a Getting-Home Plan

This one isn’t glamorous.

It’s smart.

Know how you’re getting home before the evening gets going.

If alcohol is part of your night, organise a safe transport option and follow the drink-driving laws where you live rather than trying to make transport decisions at the end of the evening.

Travel with friends where practical.

Keep enough phone battery to contact people and arrange transport.

Let your friends know if you’re leaving.

And if somebody in your group is uncomfortable, unwell or wants to go home, take it seriously.

The costume is optional. Getting home safely isn’t.

💗 Your Costume Is Not a Contract

This deserves its own section.

Wearing lingerie-inspired clothing, a revealing costume, stockings, a bodysuit or anything else does not communicate consent.

Neither does flirting.

Neither does dancing.

Neither does drinking.

Neither does dressing as a character associated with sexuality.

You can wear the tiniest Bunny costume on planet Earth and still decide exactly who touches you, how they touch you and whether anybody touches you at all.

Likewise, don’t assume somebody else’s costume is an invitation.

Compliment it.

Admire it.

Ask before touching accessories, clothing or the person wearing them.

Sexy costume. Same boundaries.

Always.

🚽 Seriously. Think About the Bathroom.

Yes.

We’re coming back to it.

Because we care.

😂

Bodysuits.

Jumpsuits.

Corsets.

Garters.

Stockings.

Belts.

Harnesses.

Gloves.

Complicated lingerie.

Costumes with zips located in places no human arm can reach.

Sometimes the outfit looks spectacular because there are seventeen things happening simultaneously.

Unfortunately, all seventeen may need to come off.

Before leaving home, know:

What needs removing?

Can you undo it yourself?

Can you do it without dropping half the costume onto a public bathroom floor?

Can you put it back on again?

If the answer to the last three questions is “absolutely not”...

Modify the plan.

This is the kind of knowledge nobody puts on the product packaging.

We are here for the important research.

😂💗

🎃 The Five-Minute Final Check

You’re ready.

Your ride is coming.

Friends are messaging.

Somebody has already asked “WHERE ARE YOU?” despite the fact that everybody agreed on 8pm.

Before leaving, take five minutes.

Phone charged?

Keys?

ID and payment?

Transport home organised?

Comfortable enough to move?

Bathroom situation tested?

Flash-photo test passed?

Emergency essentials packed?

Shoes survivable - or backup pair available?

Medication or personal essentials?

Costume pieces properly attached?

Weather checked?

You know where your phone is going?

You feel bloody fantastic?

Excellent.

Proceed.

👠 The Best Costume Is the One You Can Actually Enjoy Wearing

Halloween fashion is supposed to be fun.

Not an endurance event.

The perfect costume isn’t the one that looks incredible for thirty seconds in your bedroom mirror and makes you miserable for the following six hours.

It’s the one that lets you actually enjoy your night.

Sit down.

Dance.

Laugh.

Eat.

Take ridiculous photos.

Lose one completely non-essential accessory.

Find it again.

Decide the shoes have served their country and change into flats.

Touch up your lipstick.

Drink some water.

Help your friend reattach her Bunny tail.

😂

And remember:

You don’t owe discomfort to an outfit.

If something hurts, change it.

If something makes you feel exposed in a way you don’t like, cover it.

If the wig is giving you a headache, take it off.

If the heels have become instruments of torture, swap them.

If you decide halfway through the night that you’ve had enough?

Go home.

The goal isn’t to survive Halloween looking exactly the way you did when you left the house.

The goal is to have such a good night that when you finally walk through the front door - flats on, lipstick faded, one ear missing and your emergency safety pin performing structural miracles - you can look in the mirror and think:

Bloody hell. That was fun. 🎃👠🥂💗
